General Schedule for Lesson Study (on the day it is taught)
The general schedule for the Lesson Study protocol when the prepared lesson is taught is as follows:
- Shortly after the start of school, all group members who designed the lesson meet at the school of the teacher who will present it; sign in (approx. 15 min).
- The group meets to review the observation protocol, decide specific roles, and discuss the lesson plans and the class with the teacher (approx. 1 hr).
- The selected teacher presents the lesson; other group members observe and record data according to their individual protocol assignments (approx. 1 to 1.5 hrs).
- After the lesson is complete and away from the students, all group participants complete a formal, written reflection document (approx. 30 min).
- The entire group engages in a lesson debrief using the study protocol questions (approx 1 hr).
- Lunch (30 min).
- The entire group as a team revises the lesson based on the observation feedback, discusses individual plans to present the revised lessons in their own classes (approx. 2 hrs).
- Dismissal; sign out (approx. 15 min).
